About Nuclear Job Contexts

A concept of Job Contexts has been developed to describe the role profiles across the breadth of the nuclear industry. The Job Contexts provide a common framework for capturing the competences and Nuclear Industry Qualifications and Training. This enables the comparison of industry roles and the basis for skills gap analysis.

Thirteen Job contexts each with five skills levels are defined. These are:

About Nuclear Training Standards

Training Standards have been developed to provide industry-wide agreed common training for a range of disciplines across the nuclear industry.

The development of these important standards has taken place in consultation with many subject area experts including the Association of Project Managers, The UK Asbestos Training Association, ECITB, Health Protection Agency, St John Ambulance and the UK Nuclear Human Performance Forum.

The National Skills Academy for Nuclear has been established at the request of Nuclear employers to address the key skills and training challenges facing the Nuclear industry. The Skills Academy will ensure the sector has a skilled workforce that can operate safely and effectively, and can also meet the future demands of this rapidly changing industry.

About Process Industries Skills Passport

Skills Passport is an online, self-serviceable platform, detailing a learner’s accredited/verified qualifications and training. With its advanced gap analysis facility and flagging system, alerting employers to the expiry of key and mandatory training and qualifications, Skills Passport will promote the delivery and achievement of the Cogent Gold Standard.

The Skills Passport offers many benefits to the employer including:

  • A secure, easy to use single access point for the recording of all training and qualifications
  • Employers can assess their skills base, identify gaps against the Gold Standard, get signposted to Academy accredited training and record improvements
  • Benchmarking is against Cogent Gold Standards for job roles right across the process industry
